science is your friend
On reading of my very much non-exciting life, I have noticed that my updates on the world of science (in particular my discoveries of interesting, but useless information) have been rather abysmal, if not non-existant. So, it is with great joy and eagerness, that I bring to you......
The Science Life of Kat ~ January 2007 Edition
I've had much fun this semester so far, and we've finally moved away from titrations in Chemistry. They are actually trusting us with more complex experiments, and more exciting chemicals^^ On the subject of Chemistry, we'll start there. We've been learning about some pretty cool reactions, whch kind of relate to Biology for once. Enzyme reactions, and proteases and the like are very interesting when you break them down to a molecular level. Although I struggle to understand some of the reactions (and it's not through lack of listening in lectures ~ it all makes sense then....it's when they give me questions to figure out on my own that I struggle), it has made me realise that I really like things on a molecular level. I find it fascinating how EVERYTHING boils down to molecules and how they interact. Thought proceses, metabolic pathways, hell even this pc I'm working on is all down to little molecules interacting in a specific way to create a unique process. Enough of me swooning over molecules....and I am seriously thinking about combining Bio with the tech bit of nano.....down to the interesting experiments:
I got to do chromatography^^ It was awesome. I got stained hands from Nihydrin. I was so pleased that this nihydrin picked up the amino acids on my hands (well duh, of course they're there, but it's cool to see that you actually do have them).
In our molecular bio subject, we got to play around with homogenised rat livers, which was pretty fun in its own right, especially as we got to use vortex spinners and incubation tanks. Neat science gear <3 I've been working pretty hard on my Chemistry this semester, as I feel it was my fall down last year, and have been doing bits everyday. I'm well proud of myself for that discipline. If only I could get my act together for the other subjects. Three weeks in, and I have been promising myself to make sure my notes are all good, so when exam time comes, it's just a case of looking over my lecture notes. No extra reading and what not, because I would have done that beforehand. If I didn't have a discussion, lab report and essay due, I would do it this weekend. This semester has certianly been alot busier, and I have been struggling to find time to go to the gym, although I have been under the weather too, so I think next week will be a good time to start as I am starting to feel somewhat human again.
Plan for this weekend ~ finish all reports and do some work on those other subjects! It'll be worth it if I put the work in now. I keep telling myself that. Ask me how the weekend went on Monday....it'll probably be an entirely different story!

the wonderful thing about tiggers....
Hmm, Friday. Yes, I shall tell you about Friday. I got drunk. That special kind of drunk that makes you walk straight past your flat. I may add that I was actually trying to find the flat in order to enter it as it was pouring icicles and I was a bit on the chilly side. I say a bit, I really mean I was convulsing due to the cold. It all started when Ula had a cunning plan.....
*loses herself in thought and casts her mind back*
Ula, "Let's have a drink on Friday to celebrate being back"
Kat, "Okay, that sounds just dandy, I'll bring some celery and dips"
Ula, "And I'll bring carrots sticks and Doritos"
Mistake number one: Not eating a proper meal
Kat, "Oooo, My best friend Leigh gave me some vodka for Christmas, I'll bring that along too"
Ula, "How terrif, I have some Chinese vodka I've been meaning to try"*
Kat, "Great! We'll have one or two and a quiet night in"
Mistake number two: Bringing own booze, assuming it'll be a quiet night in and *Ula omitting to say it's 52% and tastes like artificial pineapples *shudders at the thought*
Kat, "What time should I pop round? Last lecture finishes at 1pm on a Friday"
Ula, "Well, if we have a few in the afternoon, you'll be home early and can get to bed early too so that you can start your important essay at 7am on a Saturday morning"
Kat, " Don't be silly, I think I may have a lie in and start it at 8am...*chortle chortle*"
Mistake number three: Starting at 2 in the afternoon
So, I "popped round" and had one or two or three, before we knew it we hitting that Chinese stuff *shudders again*, and I even ended up drinking this

Yes, it is called Viagra, and yes, it made from the penis of a deer. Why did I drink it? I though it was a poor translation
Well, if I have ever been so insulted in my life. I can't believe he just took my answer like that. No questioning, nothing. I nearly pulled him back for him to question me, or at least question my friends. Really....23...*grumbles off*. If I could have had an argument, I would have. I still can't believe him, the cheek of believing that I looked 23. Well I am, but still, you don't just agree like that. Anyway, we entered, paid £5 and got 2 free doubles. T'was awesome. From then on it's a bit blurry. Some poor girl has loads of photos of Ula, Richie?? and me grinning awkwardly at her camera phone. We then stumbled home past the hour of midnight, and I think I may have climbed into bed at 1:30am after leaving the house nearly 12 hours prior. A good night indeed.
On an awesome note.... these were made for me. No longer will I have to say "my toes are cold", and I can happily game-I mean write essays- into the early hours without having to stop due to icy peripherals

Huzzah for snows
Indeedy...the snow has fallen upon us (and all in my hair and up my nose and in my bag). I do like the snow, it fills me with that warm fuzzy feeling inside. In fact, today has been a very good day all round. We did our practical for Medical Biology today, which involved basically a physical
Secondly, my mother landed herself a new fab job. I am so proud of her for just persevering and being proactive during the difficult time she was having. Big up the mimenator!
Thirdly, today is the Oh-so-lovely naku's b-day. Any day that involves compulsory cake has to be a good one. I in fact baked one in honour of this momentous day, and am slowly working my way through it. Thanks Les for the excuse for me to stuff my face^^
And lastly....snow for god's sake, snow's a fabulous reason to have a good day
Have a good week kids...my the fortune of today follow through to Friday

Oh, I gots those January blues....
Well not really. In fact I am in rather high spirits. I would tell all of my amazing adventures in ZA, but I suspect that that time has passed. I ate and drank and was merry, and I have evidence of the former in pictorial form. I've been somewhat preoccupied the past two weeks, and so haven't had a moment to write about my ramblings that go on in my head. To be honest, I don't have that much going on there at the moment. I completed my first week back at uni, and it looks promising. Some good courses lined up, and the Chemistry this semester ain't looking 'alf bad (yeah, I have been possessed by someone from Eastenders.)
So, one week down, ten to go, and lots of revision time for my exams (a whole month^^) This semester I aim to get myself a job, and get back into a routine. Whether or not this comes into effect is highly debatable. Anyway, I have work to catch up on now, and really should get out of bed
More to follow, as well as pics if I can be arsed =)
